11th July 2009
As only 3 of did this route last time we decided to repeat it but sadly there were only 4 of us and we set off from the Village Hall anyway out of the village towards Blacksmith’s corner, where we turned right onto the B1113 to ride past Rattee’s corner to the turning into Hurn’s Lane opposite Tacolneston Church. The road was a bit difficult with all the gravel and sand that had been washed onto it by recent rain. At the top of the next hill we stopped to take in the view over the valley back to Tacolneston.
Carrying on we turned down to Forncett St Mary to join the road to Long Stratton as far as the turning to Bustard’s Green. We travelled down this quiet road until dropping downhill we passed Wacton Church, and then over the road to Wacton Common where we stopped for refreshments. This is a lovely quiet green area and ideal for a rest.
Restarting we turned left to cycle through the village, past the new Wacton Village Hall as far as Wash Lane. This passes under the main Norwich-London railway and is another quiet country lane. Crossing the ford (thankfully dry) at the other end we turned right to Forncett St Peter Church and left to go up the hill (Mill Lane) and as far as the turning which took us as far as Cheney’s Lane where we turned left. This took us back to Tacolneston for a right turn along the B113 again as far as the turning by the social club. Turning left here we cut through to New Rd and then to home.
Luckily we had no problems until entering the village we needed to replace a chain, and as we arrived home the light rain started.
