Saturday 14 January 2012 – Twelve teams and probably around 72 people pitted wits against each other at this popular quiz night with questions asked by Ray and answers judged by his wife Sue, after careful marking of each team’s answers by a rival team! 100 questions made up the contest, 20 of them being musical memory-teasers, with a total available score of 201. A welcome break to rest the brain cells was taken two-thirds’ way through with the arrival of the fish and chips.
Team names this year were: Absolute Beginners, Blithe Spirits, Hopeful Quizzers, Mixed Bag, Over Sexed and Over Here, Saga Louts, Six Cod and Chips, Table Eight, Triple A’s and the Poorly Rated, Up the Creek with the Dawsons, WRC and another team with a presently forgotten name but who will be given full recognition when memory is revived.
At the end of an evening’s hard work by question-master, judge and contestants, the final scores ranged from 89 to 148 with the Wooden Spoon going to the Hopeful Quizzers. The top three were: Absolute Beginngers on 139; Saga Louts on 145 and winners WRC on 148.
A collection was made for Ray’s 2012 Charity which is STAR THROWERS, a cancer advice, consultation and drop-in centre in Wymondham, and this raised £115.20. The amount raised from ticket sales for Village Hall funds will be posted later on.
