Alan Dawson, Gordon and Jennifer Robbie are three members of the Ashwellthorpe Shuffleboard Club who are joining with nine others from the Wymondham group, to play against 40 top Shuffleboarders from Canada and the USA in the Norwich Open Shuffleboard Tournament from Wednesday 29 April to Friday 1 May 2015. This is the first major UK tournament and will be held at St Andrew’s Hall in Norwich between 9.30 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. on those days.
The Ashwellthorpe Shuffleboarders, who started in July 2007, play the sport at Ashwellthorpe Village Hall every Wednesday evening throughout the year(club nights at 8.00 p.m. except for the last Wednesday in each month when a club competition is held 7.30 p.m.). The game is tactically similar to bowls or curling with each player using a cue to propel, alternately, 4 discs down the length of the court which has a triangular scoring zone at its end with the aim of scoring with your own discs but preventing your opponent from scoring. Anyone is welcome to come along to take part in the Ashwellthorpe Shuffleboard Club meetings.
The Open Tournament at St Andrew’s Hall is also open to everyone – FREE ENTRY – to watch the competition, support the local players and have a go yourself. Try it.
