SUPPORT YOUR VILLAGE HALL

TUESDAY 16 FEBRUARY (Half Term Week) at 2.30 p.m.

The Disney-PIXAR animated adventure comedy "UP" had to be cancelled owing to Licence problems which, although being dealt with, were not be completed by 16 February

The Legendary Ashwellthorpe Quiz and Chips Evening was held on SATURDAY 16th JANUARY 2010 at Ashwellthorpe Village Hall. There were SIXTEEN tables with a team of four to seven "competitors" on each table, Ray with his 80 general knowledge and 20 music questions along with 20 anagrams, and Ray's wife to do the scoring. Fish and chips, sausage and chips or veggie burger and chips were enjoyed along with whatever drinks the participants had brought along! It was an evening of merriment, erudition, banter, sometimes hilarious sometimes controversial and, most importantly, of great enjoyment. The winning team was Saga Louts, who won a prize of 6 bottles of wine, with joint second place achieved by the 7-Up and TPL teams.

Especial thanks to Ray and his wife for organising the questions and marking and to the donors of the many raffle prizes.  An amount of £320 was raised from the evening which will go to various Village Hall projects.

Village Hall Report December 2009 - During Autumn Half Term Week, the Garlic Puppet Theatre performed Old Mother Hubbard to an audience of 85 - it was good to see local children enraptured - and at times a little scared - by this professional production.  On 4 December the first Village Screen film event was held "Last Chance Harvey" starring Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson with just under 60 people attending and a profit made of about £70.00.

Funding was received from South Norfolk District Council's Neighbourhood Grant with which new fireproof curtains were obtained.  During the Summer, the fascia boarding and guttering were replaced and, thanks to funding received from Grass Roots, from the Parish Council and from the Village Hall, all the floors were refurbished or new flooring laid in November. The sum total of the grants and funding for these works amounted to £4,525.00.  A new solid wood back door has been fitted and plans are being made to improve the entrance door.

Future projects include new doors, plinths and work tops for the kitchen cupboards - the Village Hall received £226 from the Waitrose Community Initiative which will be used towards these kitchen improvements.

The Village Hall Committee feel that on completion of all the above, the facilities will be greatly improved for all current and potential Village Hall users.  Thanks to all parishioners who have helped at various events this year, from helping with refreshments, washing up, keeping the garden and car park tidy and decking the Hall with Christmas decorations.

Heart Start December 1st 2009 - Although 13 people had arranged to come unfortunately due to illness etc. only 5 people attended.

The feed back from these participants was very positive and they actually said that they had enjoyed the session, which makes it even more rewarding .This means that there are another 5 people in the Parish who know how to deal with a medical emergency.

If other people are interested in training we are happy to run further sessions for new people and as a refresher course.

Many thanks to the Village Hall for free use of it.

Also  Well done and thankyou to the people who came

The Village Hall has received the sum of £226.00 from the Waitrose Supermarket in Wymondham as part of its Community Matters Scheme for August 2009.

Background - After nominations received from its customers, the Waitrose Supermarket in Wymondham selected Ashwellthorpe Village Hall to be one of the three organisations to benefit from its Community Matters Scheme during the month of August 2009.  Each month Waitrose gives £1000 to be divided between the three organisations. Customers are offered a green token every time they shop, which they can place in the tube of their choice - one for each of the three chosen organisations.  At the end of the month the tubes are weighed and the £1000 divided between the three in proportion to the tokens received.
