Starting at Ashwellthorpe Village Hall go east down the village. Turn over the road at the bend (after the church and at the start of Old all Close) and into field gateway. Turn left to keep field edge on left. (You have just entered a Permissive path which we will use until the next road – see DEFRA website for views of the route)Go through gate at end and turn left to cross the road and over a stile the other side. Cross field on a path, over the concrete road the far side and immediately left on entering the next field. Keep edge on left (this is the water treatment works so speed up a bit).
After the end of the treatment works you will see a green path lined with trees to the right. Go up there and at the end turn left. On meeting the hedge turn right to keep the hedge on the left. Continue around this field until a stile just after passing the disused railway embankment on the left. Cross the stile and turn left along a narrow road. At the farm turn left and through the farmyard. (Care with dogs as this is an equestrian centre!). Carry on track on far side of farmyard until a gateway on the left. Turn left and keep field edge on the left (you walked the other side of this edge on the way out). Continue until the end and the path turns right keeping field edge on left. Continue until you see a path turn at an angle right across the field towards the church. At the far hedge there is a gap in the fence (you can see a pond the far side) Go through the gap and keep the pond on the right (remember you are passing through a private garden) and over a footbridge into the churchyard. Pass through the churchyard and out to the road. Turn right and walk back up the village to the Hall.
